Cruise ships does dock at Swettenham Pier with a nice terminal in George Town. This is close to Beach Street, Weld Quay, Clock Tower and Esplanade.

The old town is very walk able and easy accessible from the Cruise Pier.

The oldest portion of the city center has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2008. Recognized as having a 'unique architectural and cultural towns cape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia'.

FREE Penang Shuttle Bus (CAT)
Penang Hop On Free Central Area Transit (CAT)
Visitors to Penang can now enjoy a bus ride within George Town, the UNESCO World Heritage City, for FREE.
The Hop On Free Central Area Transit (CAT) ply the route between Weld Quay Jetty and Komtar on 15-minute intervals from 6am-12midnight.
Exploring the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage City has never been this convenient now with 19 CAT stops in between all the famous heritage landmarks of Penang!

Penang Hop on Hop off
The Hop on Hop off bus has a stop near the cruise terminal and 2 different routes (City Route and Beach Route) with 33 stops (covering 50 attractions). WiFi on board.

Other Penang Bus Routes

A taxi will cost about 11 euro/hour. They advertise seemingly attractive rates to various destinations, but without volunteering that their minimum charge is for three hours.
Take a funicular railway ride up the Penang Hills to see the old British Traders gracious homes, and marvel at the coolness, and the views.

Shopping
The three most popular shopping malls in Penang would be Gurney Plaza, Prangin Mall and Queensbay, which houses a full range of fashionable goods and necessity items.

Also check out the pasar malam (night market) along Batu Ferringhi (20 mins by taxi or bus from Georgetown) for some inexpensive shopping and dining, gets more interesting during weekends.


Chowrasta Bazaar
Visit Chowrasta Bazaar if you want to really see how locals live (particularly housewives), purchasing their daily groceries and mingling in friendly company. In operation since the late 1800s, the front section of the market is dominated by vendors selling sweets, pickled fruits and local fried chips, and the back of the souk is a wet space dedicated to fresh (and occasionally smelly) meats

George Town, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang, is one of the oldest cities in Malaysia. The city is located at the northeastern tip of Penang Island. It is the second largest city in Malaysia.
Established by Captain Francis Light of the British East India Company in 1786, George Town was one of the first British settlements in South-East Asia. Together with Singapore and Malacca.

The World Heritage Site covers about 260 hectares of the city centre, bounded by Transfer Road to the west and Prangin Road to the south
